The problem we kept meeting

Small and mid-sized businesses are asked to run their customer relationships on tools built for companies with an IT department. To get value out of them you first have to learn the tool: the settings, the fields, the modules, the words that only make sense to whoever designed the screen.

Most people running a business do not have that time, and should not need it. They already know everything the software is asking for — the hours, the prices, the jobs, the regulars. The knowledge was never the problem. Getting it into the machine was.

So we changed the interface

Cleat's interface is a conversation. You tell it about your business the way you would tell a new member of staff, and it remembers. Everything after that — the questions it answers, the bookings it takes, the reminders it sends — comes from what you said.

That means no technical skills, no setup project, and no training. It also means the product has to work for any type of business in any country, because we cannot assume what your trade is or where you trade.

What we care about

• Plain language. If a screen needs explaining, we have not finished it.
• Honest answers. Cleat does not invent your prices or your hours. When it does not know, it says so.
• Your information, your business. What you tell Cleat is used to look after your customers. It is not sold.
• Starting small. One job done well beats five switched on and ignored.
